This past week, we had the first presidential elections between President Trump and Vice President Biden. I can hear everyone’s internal sigh of frustration as they are reading this. I chose to have to create a fun version while having someone drinks with some friends as everything unfolded right before my eyes. My drink for that night and for most of the summer is called “The Bootleg.” I learned of this refreshing drink from my cousin and continue to drink this for as much as I can. It is super simple and it is a party pleaser especially the frozen versions that I have taken upon myself to make.
Ingredients:
1 quart of lemonade
1-2 bunches of mint
4 freshly squeezed limes or 1-2 cups of lime juice
Ice
Club soda
Method:
- Squeeze 3-4 limes
- In a large blender, pour the lemonade and lime juice
- Tear the mint and put them in the blender. This should take a little time, but grab a friend, it will help make the process faster and blend.
- For the frozen, add about 2:1 of ice to fluids and blend on high speed until completed.
- You can simply have a glass of this refreshing drink without a drink.
Making the Bootleg:
In a nice glass, pour about 2-2.5 ounces of the spirit of your choice. You can’t go wrong except for dark rum. It just doesn’t mix well. Preferably, I like to use Mastiha, a Greek liqueur from Chios, gin, or tequila. Next, pour in about 2 ounces of your concoction, and 3 ounces of club soda.
I want to thank my cousin for opening my eyes to this wonderful drink. It is smooth, refreshing, and amazing. I can't recommend you trying this while constructing a game on the debates or for any other occasion.
