My family grew a lot of different fruit trees growing up. One of my favorite trees that we grew were the plums as they would be harvested about every other year. One summerm, the plums cross-bred with our nectarine tree on the other side of the yard and somehow created one of the best (and only) plumtarines I have ever had. In honor of having access to wonderful plums from recently going to the farmer’s market, I decided to take it a step further and make a great plum drink. I present to you “The Drunken Plum!”

Ingredients:
- 2 oz of Vitae Gin (or a great quality gin)
- 1 oz of plum syrup (see below)
- .75 oz of fresh lime juice
- 2 oz of club soda
- Garnish: Half a plum
Method:
For plum syrup: In a medium saucepan, slices of one plum, with 1 to 1.5 cups of water, a tablespoon of brown sugar, and the juice from half of a lime. Like the simple syrups, continue to stir until the plum has broken down and the juice remains. Remove from heat and place in a container to cool.
In a large glass:
In glass full of ice, pour the gin, ginger syrup, plum sauce, and fresh lime. Stir vigorously and mix to combine.
Add an ounce or two of lemonade or club soda.
Garnish with a slice of plum or crushed mint.
This is a fantastic drink to have during the plum season. It’s cool refreshing and gives off a nice color. If you have made the plum sauce correctly, you are going to have a wonderful drunken plum experience.
