I am excited! I have been making Gin Gimlets and Aviations and experimenting with a couple of other drinks. In Harry Craddock's, "The Savoy Cocktail Book" was the a major collection of drinks published in the 1930s. One of the drinks that caught my eye was the Corpse Reviver #2 (I'll cover #1 another time). A simple gin drink served in coupe glass. This is the Corpse Reviver #3, a subtle substitution, but I think it is distinct enough in taste and style.
Corpse Reviver #2
- .75 ounces Fords Gin
- .75 ounces lemon juice
- .75 ounces Cointreau
- .75 ounces Tempus Fugit Kina L'Aero d'Or
Shake and strain into a chilled coupe glass
Corpse Reviver #3
- 1 ounce Dry Gin (my picks go to my favorites, Empress 1908 Gin and Vitae Platinum)
- .75 ounces lemon juice
- .75 ounces Cointreau (Triple Sec to sub if you have to)
- .5 ounces Tsipouro (Greek Liqueur)
- Garnish with strips of lemon
Note: it is best with Tsipouro, but if you have sherry or a little whiskey could work.
Shake and strain in a chilled coupe
Yes, very subtle substitution, but Tsipouro does the job perfectly and adds an extra punch to the drink that doesn't overpower either the acidity from the lemon juice and Cointreau or the gin. This drink will wake you up from the dead of winter and you will feel rejuvenated for the spring. Let me know what you think and what you want to see next.
