The Ouzo Drop!

Happy Greek Independence Day. Normally, I would do an Ouzo Lemonade to celebrate the day but I want to do something fancier. Ouzo is tricky as it provides this licorice flavor from anise. However, it pairs wonderfully with lemon juice. The Ouzo Drop is very similar to a Lemon Drop and it is wonderful.

Ingredients:

  • 1.25 oz of Ouzo
  • .75 oz Cointreau
  • .75 oz lemon juice
  • .5 oz simple syrup
  • Garnish with a Lemon Twist

Combine all the ingredients in an ice filled shaker and shake thoroughly. You want it shaken so well that you will see some shards of ice on the top. Serve in a cold coupe and enjoy.

Other Cocktails: I think this version of a lemon drop will go perfectly along with ouzo lemonades, ouzo and cokes with lime, and there are some ouzotinis out there. If you have some in your freezer, it is a unique flavor to play around with and have in your bar set. I am going to continue this drink for the rest of the afternoon. Let me know what you think and if you want to see any more ouzo or Greek inspired drinks, please leave it in the comments below.  Yamas!
