Happy New Year! Hopefully, everyone is enjoying their 2022 so far. The Cosmopolitan is a fantastic drink (in addition to French 75s, see the video here). I made it for the first time and it turned out quite great. It got me thinking about what we can do to make a classic drink better or bring in a new style.
The Cosmopolitan has been around for over 30 years! For such a popular (and surprisingly strong) drink, what can we do to make it better? There are several ways to make a drink better. My go-to rule is that are the ingredients available that we can make better. That does not mean we need to improve every ingredient but maybe a number of ingredients or that complement each other better while keeping the essence of the drink. As always, fresher is always better especially squeezed juices.
Ingredients:
2 oz. Tito’s Vodka (my personal favorite)
.75 oz. Cointreau or Don Ciccio E Figli’s Mandarinetto
.5 oz. of cranberry juice
.25 oz. lemon lavender simple syrup (see Ted Lasso Lemon Lavender Mojito)
Garnish with cranberry and blood orange peel
Method:
- Place coupe glass in the freezer
- Combine all the ingredients in a cold shaker and shake thoroughly
- Pour in a chilled coupe
- Garnish- take the peel of an orange combined with a couple of cranberries for presentation.
- Enjoy!
The Cosmopolitan is a classic drink for any occasion. You can watch the full video here.
